Taoyuan Village Holistic Retreat Camp(GreatWallCamp™)
Northeast of Beijing deep in a valley where a section of untouched original GreatWall runs along, we found a mountain village abandoned by modern civilization. There is no electricity supply, no cell phone signal, except for a stream of pure mountain spring, ruins of ancient stone walls, and all sorts of fruit trees.
The village is named Taoyuan, meaning peach blossom garden - which term is well known by Chinese as a hidden Shangrila, because in a brilliant essay entitled "At the Head of the Peach Blossom Stream", an essay of eternal interest to readers of all time, the writer Tao Yuanming (c. 365-427), an outstanding poet of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420), described the experiences of an anonymous fisherman in a paradise of a world somewhere on this earth. By preserving the original beauty of this ancient mountain village, Mountainyoga has set up the Great Wall Taoyuan Village Holistic Retreat Camp(GreatWallCamp™), with only temporary tent buidings mainly native American Indian style Tipis. We have also built simple facilities including a kitchen, storage tent, sadhna tent, bakery, eco-friendly toilet, bush shower and a sweat lodge.
Life here is simple, and rustic: tipi camping, wood fire cooking, very simple vegetarian meals cooked by burning wood, spring water made tea or Chai. There are insects, worms, flies, mosquitos as well as many butterflies. Bush shower with limited water, and the only reminder of modern civilization is probably the squating toilets. It is not a place for physical comfort and entertaining service. Rather it is a camping village with a holistic healing approach. Here you forget about all your works to do, masks to wear, you come back to the nature, listen to the nature as well as your self. Here you practice yoga or Taichi, breath the ever-refreashing air, hike or meditate on top of the Great Wall, do karma yoga, try African drumming, Indian ear candling, and Chinese herbal stone healing, relaxing your body, mind and soul.
We stay free of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, caffeine, sugar, industrial detergents, soaps, tooth paste, sprays and other cosmetics. And try to minimize the use of Electronics, plastics and other unnecessary items...
